GROUP DOG WALKS
Social and relaxed; learning with pals
Walking in groups of up to 4 dogs, we focus on building calm, focus and orientation skills whilst in a social setting. We head out to woodlands and practice our skills together as a group. These sessions are fabulous for medium energy dogs who enjoy interacting with other dogs and humans.
We GPS track all of our walks so you’ll get a text message as soon as your dog has been collected, when they’ve finished a walk and when they’re dropped off again. You’ll get to see a little map of where we (or more specifically, the human!) walked, how far they walked, how long they were out for and which of their pals they were playing with.
We also update our Facebook page daily so you can see videos and pictures of the fun they’ve been having without you!
Our van is professionally crated so our dogs travel comfortably and safely and we have full air conditioning so it’s cool in summer. Unfortunately they do still have to cope with us singing to the radio…
“I was delighted when Bob and Pals had space to walk my two Schnauzers, back in March. Our reason for a dog walker were due to wanting to increase confidence around other dogs, which had been amiss during lockdown.
Rach carefully matched our requirements into a suitable group and I have seen both girls flourish in their relationships with other dogs.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the team for safe but enriching dog walks.”
Our walks are a great mixture of learning and free time.
Each dog has a bespoke training plan created so we know which areas we want to continue focussing on with them, for example we commonly want to improve their proximity to the walker so we’ll focus on playing games that encourage and reward them for coming close to us.
Each week we pick a new skill or trick for the whole team to learn on top of their individual learning plan. This breaks up the walk and allows us to have a bit of fun with some completely different skills to those they normally use on walks. For example we enjoy tricks such as ‘spin’, ‘step’, ‘touch’ or ‘middle’ which encourage the dogs to use their brains.
In addition we focus heavily on spending some time being calm, patient and still on a walk as you can see in our photo! Posing dogs on rocks is unusual but it’s a great way of helping them develop their patience as we walk away from them to take a photo. Families have told us this has been particularly helpful at home when they want their dog to wait for something!
Finally, we allow ‘free time’ on each walk where we take them to a safe clearing and allow them time to make their own decisions without us interfering. They might choose to go for a sniff, paddle in the water, have a whizz around or come for a cuddle. We only interrupt if something is unsafe, otherwise we allow them time to be a dog and do what comes naturally to them; something that is hugely important for their mental health but easily overlooked.
Group dog walks are 1 hour and cost £13
Our Walking Commitments
If our dog would like to see an off lead dog, we will ask them to sit and wait whilst we check if it is appropriate for them to do so.
We actively teach our dogs to return to our feet, sit and wait without prompting when we stand still or sit down.
We keep any meetings short and exit whilst our dog is still able to listen to us.
If we see a member of the public we get our dogs to sit at the side of the path and wait whilst they pass us.
We actively teach recall and loose lead work on all of our walks.
We continually assess arousal levels to ensure our dogs are able to focus, think and respond to cues successfully.
We actively look for and reward great behaviour from our dogs at all times.
We put all of our dogs on lead as they exit the van and we keep them on lead until we’ve made an environmental assessment to ensure they are safe off lead.
We continually assess all of our dogs body language to ensure they are comfortable, secure and confident at all times. If we feel they are not, we will take steps to change this.
We do not allow our dogs to approach on lead dogs.
We put all dogs back on lead before we take them back towards the car park.
We will place dogs on lead during a walk if necessary to ensure their own or other dogs safety.
We teach our dogs to sit and wait calmly when we take them off or put them on a lead.
